Dogs treated with Advantix will be less likely to be bitten by mosquitoes or flies. Most veterinarians consider Advantix safe for dogs, but it is a strong medication that should be used with caution. The main active ingredients are imidacloprid and permethrin, both of which can be toxic in high doses.

The active ingredients in K9 Advantix II are Imidacloprid (8.8%), Permethrin (44.0%), and Pyriproxyfen (0.44%). K9 Advantix II is for use on dogs and puppies weighing 4 lbs or more and 7 weeks of age or older.

The insect growth regulator, which is known as pyriproxyfen, was added to the formula to make it a more complete flea and tick killing solution. The IGR ingredient makes it possible to kill fleas and ticks in all of their life stages. This is the main difference between regular K9 Advantix and K9 Advantix II.

Effective flea treatment kills 98-100% of the fleas on dogs within 12 hours and continues to prevent infestations for at least four weeks and kills fleas before they lay eggs. Larval flea stages in the dog's surroundings are killed following contact with a K9 Advantix II.
