The active ingredients in K9 Advantix, imidacloprid and permethrin, work by attacking the nervous system of fleas, ticks, and other parasites, but they are not known to have a sedative effect on dogs.

Advantix contains imidacloprid and permethrin. Imidacloprid is an insect neurotoxin and works by interfering with the transmission of impulses along the insect nervous system. This causes paralysis of the insect and its ultimate death. Permethrin is a type of pyrethroid insecticide.

K9 Advantix II is a monthly preventative for dogs that offers comprehensive protection against ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, biting flies, and chewing lice.

A single application of K9 Advantix® II remains effective for four weeks. However, if the dog has a severe infestation, retreatment within a month may be necessary. Do not retreat more than once every seven days.

Effective flea treatment kills 98-100% of the fleas on dogs within 12 hours and continues to prevent infestations for at least four weeks and kills fleas before they lay eggs. Larval flea stages in the dog's surroundings are killed following contact with a K9 Advantix II.
