NexGard is a medicine used to treat infestations with fleas and ticks, as well as demodectic and sarcoptic mange (skin infestations caused by two different types of mites) in dogs. It may be used as part of the management of flea allergy dermatitis (an allergic reaction to flea bites).

Usage Guidelines: For dogs 4-10 kg, NexGard is given orally once a month, at the minimum dosage of 1.14 mg/lb (2.5 mg/kg). Most dogs readily take the palatable chew, so there is no need to hide it in the food. Afoxolaner plasma levels are the same regardless of whether NexGard is given with our without food.

NexGard can be administered with or without food. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or refused.

The most frequently reported adverse reactions include vomiting, itching, lethargy, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. The safe use of NexGard in pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs has not been evaluated.
