In the year 2077, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) works as a security repairman on an Earth left empty and devastated after a war with aliens. Oblivion is based on the director Joseph Kosinski's unpublished graphic novel of the same name which he had developed with Arvid Nelson for Radical Comics. Initial rushes of the novel were shown at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con by Kosinski while promoting his then-upcoming movie TRON: Legacy (2010).

Most "Oblivion" reviews boil down to the same thing: Kosinski delivers a story that can't keep up with the visuals and, for the most part, the main cast's mundane performances.
