Like Baked Lay's before them, Poppables are marketed as a healthier alternative to regular potato chips because they're not deep-fried. Don't be deceived: Poppables are still very much junk food.

Ingredients are fed through a hopper, volumetrically metered and introduced by a feed-slide into a heated mould. The Processor then pressurizes the ingredients for a short period of time. This pressurization allows the ingredient moisture to be converted into steam, resulting in expansion, or popping.

Alternatively, many use sodium diacetate, a 1:1 ratio of sodium acetate and acetic acid, which provides salt and vinegar flavor in a dry mixture.
