So when I learned about these pilot FriXion pens I grabbed a couple to check them out the pen itself is pretty normal a cap to cover standard ballpoint tip for the ink and a rubber piece on the other

The Frixion pen contains a unique ink that is thermo-sensitive. When you rub the eraser on the end of the pen against the paper, you generate enough friction heat to turn the ink invisible (making it look like it has been erased).

Erasable pens work in two ways, rubber cement and thermo-sensitive ink. In newer erasable pens, “thermochromic ink” is used as the pigment. By default, this ink is dark but when the ink is heated up, such as from the friction of an eraser, it turns clear to make it seem as if the ink was erased.

The ink that comes in Pilot pens (rollergel pens to b exact) is viscous and more dense than fountain pen ink . The denser original ink is made to smoothen the nib of pen and make the ball present at the tip to rotate . If you put fountain pen ink , the ball will not roll and it will not role .
