Allegra 24 Hour Allergy is an antihistamine that is used to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergies (hay fever) in adults and children. Allegra 24 Hour Allergy is also used to treat skin itching and hives caused by a condition called chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children at least 6 years old.

Fexofenadine is an antihistamine medication that comes in a capsule or tablet form. It treats and prevents symptoms of allergies like itchy eyes, sneezing and hives. It works by blocking histamine in your body. A common brand name of this medication is Allegra®.

Allegra and Zyrtec are common over-the-counter drugs used to treat allergy symptoms. Both drugs are safe and effective, but studies show Zyrtec's effects may last longer than Allegra's. Zyrtec is more likely to cause drowsiness. Drinking fruit juices can make Allegra less effective.

The adult Allegra 24 Hour dosage is 180 mg (1 pill) with water once a day. Don't take more than 180 mg (1 pill) in 24 hours.

Newer antihistamines like Allegra and Claritin are generally safe for daily use. But allergy medications with decongestants, such as Claritin-D or Benadryl-D, could make your allergies worse with long-term use.

While it's generally well tolerated, it may cause side effects for some people. Common Allegra side effects include headache, indigestion, and dry mouth. Very rarely, people may experience drowsiness or fatigue after a dose. Side effects from Allegra are usually mild and can be managed at home.

Take the Allegra disintegrating tablet on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse after you start taking Allegra. Never use more than the recommended dose.
