Fexofenadine is an antihistamine medication that comes in a capsule or tablet form. It treats and prevents symptoms of allergies like itchy eyes, sneezing and hives. It works by blocking histamine in your body. A common brand name of this medication is Allegra®.

Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Allegra is used to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergies (hay fever) in adults and children. Allegra is also used to treat skin itching and hives caused by a condition called chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children.

Another clinical trial in which participants took 10 mg of Claritin once a day or 120 mg of Allegra once a day showed that Allegra was better at relieving itchy, watery eyes, and nasal congestion. Allegra was also better at improving quality of life.
