ARBORCOAT® Semi-Transparent Wood Finish is a water-based penetrating wood stain that provides strong protection in a range of 75 rich semi-transparent colors. While the color will beautify the wood, it still allows the wood grain pattern and texture to show through.

Overview. The Arborcoat Exterior Stain – Semi Solid provides colour and protection for your wood surfaces while still allowing the grain surface to show. This stain is perfect for softwoods such as cedar and pine, but is also suitable for all types of wooden decking, siding and furniture.

Oil-based stains may be a little harder to work with than water-based stains, but they are more durable and stand up against the elements better than a water-based stain. If you have a project that needs to stand up to the test of time, an oil-based stain may be the better option.

Weather conditions: Water-based stains are more susceptible to damage from sunlight, rain and wind than oil-based stains. If you live in an area with extreme weather conditions, you should use an oil-based stain. Type of wood: Some woods, such as pine and fir are more prone to rot and mildew than others.

Rain can cause significant damage to a newly stained deck if it happens before the stain is dry, resulting in an uneven, patchy, or washed-out finish and exposing the wood to potential discoloration, rotting, or warping. You should wait at least 24 to 48 hours before exposing the stained deck to rain.

Most oil-based stains must dry for at least 12 hours before they are exposed to any moisture/rain; however, Ready Seal, if properly applied to prepped and dried wood, can get wet within a couple of hours, and it won't wash away. Oil-based stains will generally take 24-72 hours to fully cure.
