When Disney Infinity first debuted in Q3 2013 the supply didn't meet demand and production could barely keep up to maintain appropriate inventory levels at retail, so by the time Disney Infinity 2.0 came around - based entirely on Marvel - they over-produced big time.
Coupled with the lack of new titles or toys, and the fire sale of figures that took place following the server closure, this move effectively marked the end for Disney Infinity. Yes, you can technically still buy a copy, and scrounge marketplaces for figures, but the heart of the game is gone.
Look, “Disney Infinity” was not a flop. It made a lot of money, but not enough money to be worth a continued investment from Disney. It was a failure, but it was closer to the middle of the success/failure spectrum than the end. It was still on the wrong side of middle, though.
