QLED TV is a Quantum dot LED TV. Quantum dot technology is what makes these types of television differ from conventional LED TVs.

You should buy a QLED TV if... To put it plainly, there are millions of individually-lit pixels in a QLED TV, each emitting a specific color to build out the overall image you see on screen. This complex arrangement of pixels gives QLED the edge when it comes to color accuracy, sharpness, and vibrancy.

The “Q” in the QLED stands for Quantum, which sounds high-tech and futuristic. While the tech is appealing to hear and flaunt, it is similar to traditional LED TVs, but with some advantages. The additional Quantum Dot filter results in more accurate colours and brightness.

Where regular LED TVs emit white backlit, QLED TVs emit blue. This blue light meets the Quantum dot filter which consists of red and blue dots. The RGB light from the Quantum filter passes through an LCD filter and colour filter glass to render images on the screen.

LED and QLED TVs are similar to each other as they each use LCD panels with LED backlights; the only difference is that QLED TVs use a quantum dot layer that allows them to produce a wider range of colors.

On the other hand, QLED televisions boast excellent brightness levels and deliver accurate colours while being less prone to issues like image retention or degradation in panel quality. The downside here is that this display is unable to produce deep blacks and has an inferior contrast ratio than OLED.

However, QLED TVs can still produce very high levels of brightness and colour accuracy, and they are often more affordable than OLED TVs. In addition, QLED TVs with the local dimming feature have an edge over OLEDs. This feature divides the screen into small zones, each with its own LED backlight.
