A turkey club is a classic sandwich with six ingredients: turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and bread. It traditionally has a third slice of bread in the middle with extra layers of meat, but I only used two slices to cut calories.

Historically, club sandwiches featured slices of chicken, but with time, turkey has become increasingly common. An 1897 recipe has three layers, with the chicken and ham separated not by a slice of bread, but by a lettuce leaf.

History of the Club Sandwich The origins of this acronym go back to 19th century clubhouses in New York. The Saratoga Club House in Saratoga Springs claimed it introduced the sandwich in 1894 and the Union Club, located on Fifth Avenue in New York City, added a “clubhouse sandwich” to its menu five years earlier.
