On February 14, 2023, EA is dropping the online servers for a slew of FIFA games, including FIFA 16, FIFA 17, FIFA 18, and FIFA 19.

It all came down to money. According to The New York Times, FIFA was asking for double its $150 million licensing fee to allow Electronic Arts to continue using its name. EA, meanwhile, was starting to question what it was actually getting for that money.

The end of the deal with FIFA came after the football body reportedly raised its licensing fee demand from $150 million a year to $250 million - bring the total for the mooted four-year contract to $1 billion.
