Nanette Byrd, better known as Brad's wife, lost her job at Cracker Barrel. People lose their job every day, but what makes this case special is that this has become internet famous, with a petition (with over 20,0000 signatures) demanding answers as to why Nanette Byrd lost her job after 11 years.

Cracker Barrel sources all of its beef, pork, poultry, dairy and egg products domestically from suppliers who meet or exceed our standards for animal care, quality and food safety.

The case concerned discrimination in pay and promotion, and also involved discrimination against African-American customers. The United States Department of Justice intervened in the case after five years of litigation and the suit settled for $8.7 million.

There have been allegations of discrimination against employees and customers, accusations of sexual harassment, and even an allegedly accidental poisoning with industrial chemicals. Cracker Barrel has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, threatening its longstanding reputation.

Uncle Herschel was Cracker Barrel Old Country Store's founder Dan Evins' real uncle, the younger brother of Evins' mother. He helped shape not only Cracker Barrel's image but also its values. He was our own “goodwill ambassador” to the public.

The name comes from the barrels of soda crackers that could be found for sale in small-town stores across the American South in the early 1900s; people would stand around the barrels chatting and catching up, similar in purpose to contemporary office water coolers.
