David Hoffman shares his famous acting role with an unpredictable emu - who's more recognizable than his human partner with the mustache and sunglasses. Hoffman plays Doug, the '70s-era throwback in the popular, ubiquitous “Limu Emu & Doug” commercials for Liberty Mutual Insurance.

Tanner Novlan's Emu Sidekick: Alongside Tanner Novlan, the emu in the “LiMu Emu and Doug” commercials has become an iconic character in Liberty Mutual's advertising. The emu is a puppet operated by a team of talented puppeteers and animators.

Emus are farmed primarily for their meat, leather, feathers and oil, and 95% of the carcass can be used. Emu meat is a low-fat product (less than 1.5% fat), and is comparable to other lean meats.

The emu is a fast runner and can reach speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/hr). Their long legs enable them to walk considerable distances or outrun danger. Emus are also strong swimmers. In emus, as in most ratites - large flightless birds - the male incubates the eggs.
