The MandalorianGrogu / Father In the series, the protagonist known as "the Mandalorian" is hired to track down and capture Grogu for a remnant of the fallen Galactic Empire, but instead, he becomes his adoptive father and protects him from the Imperials.

The Internet has dubbed the adorable creature Baby Yoda because he or she bears a strong resemblance to the legendary Jedi master. As an ill-fated droid informs the Mandalorian, “species age differently,” and Baby Yoda is a young 50.

The short answer is that “Yoda” is the name of a character, not a species, and the character we see on The Mandalorian is different from the Yoda we know and love from the Star Wars movies. Baby Yoda is not a younger Yoda the way Anakin Skywalker is a younger Darth Vader.

Jon Favreau, who created Grogu's character, wanted a name that would perfectly describe his cute and weird appearance.

Minch Yaddle

Yaddle Baby Yoda is the lovechild of Yoda and Yaddle Big Yoda died in Return of the Jedi. Right at the end. The Mandalorian takes place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The timeline is clear: Yoda is the illicit love child of Yoda and Yaddle, who was a member of the Jedi Council circa The Phantom Menace.

Although we don't know just how many midichlorians Baby Yoda has, he could absolutely turn out to be just as powerful -- if not more so -- than Yoda. However, there are already ways he's proven himself just as strong.

Within "Star Wars" media, Grogu is the youngest known member of Yoda's species. He is one of three featured characters from this species. The other is Yaddle, the only other adult and female member of Yoda's species who appeared in "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" and "Tales of the Jedi."

Is Grogu Yoda? According to the events of "The Mandalorian" so far, Grogu and Yoda are not the same character. They are simply from the same species. The name of this species has never been revealed since "Star Wars" creator George Lucas wanted to give Yoda a sense of mystery.

Grogu Is Officially A Jedi Who Is A Knight It remains to be seen whether Lucasfilm will indeed remember Grogu's knighthood, or whether it was just meant as a throwaway joke; regardless, The Mandalorian has made Grogu a Jedi Knight after a fashion, despite Luke's decision to give up on Grogu's training.

Grogu was born around the year 41 BBY, and was raised at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant as a Jedi Initiate of the Jedi Order. Grogu had survived the Great Jedi Purge and was hidden away. Years later, he was rediscovered by a remnant of the Galactic Empire after it fell and led by Moff Gideon.
