The amount of ground coffee used in relation to the amount of water is the difference between cold brew coffee and cold brew concentrate. Cold brew concentrate has a much stronger flavor and must be diluted before drinking, whereas cold brew coffee can be consumed as is.

The drip coffee you're used to is anywhere from 1 part coffee to 16 to 20 parts water. We also call this "strength". Cold brew concentrate is often 1:4 to 1:8. It is literally a concentrated coffee drink and is much stronger - and has much more caffeine - than the same amount of drip coffee liquid.

For a cold brew concentrate, 4:1 is perfect! That's 4 parts of water to 1 part of ground coffee. A cold brew concentrate is great for pouring over ice (like the one you get at Starbucks!) or milk. If you rather have it without any milk or ice, I would recommend making it with a higher water ratio.

In addition to it's anti-inflammatory benefits, cold brew has the ability to reduce the risk of several diseases. Research shows that with increased coffee and cold brew consumption, you can reduce the risk of some cancers, heart disease as well as type-2 diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzhimer's disease.

A healthy adult can consume around 400 milligrams of caffeine daily, which means you can safely have about four cups of coffee in a day unless otherwise advised by your doctor. Consumption of 200 milligrams of caffeine doesn't cause any significant harmful effects in healthy people.

1:1 After you make cold brew, you'll end up with cold brew concentrate. To drink the finished brew, use a ratio of 1:1. In other words, fill your glass with 1 part concentrate and 1 part water (or milk).

Cold-brew coffee has more caffeine than espresso because it uses double or triple the amount of coffee beans. However, cold-brew extract can be diluted to match the caffeine content of an espresso so personal preference determines how strong one likes their cold-brew coffee.

Studies have shown that drinking 3-5 cups (15-25 ounces or 450-750 ml) of cold brew coffee daily can lower your risk of heart disease by up to 15%. This is due to the beneficial compounds found in cold brew coffee, such as caffeine, phenolic compounds, magnesium, trigonelline, quinides, and lignans.
