Consumer Cellular operates on two different networks: AT&T and T-Mobile. Select the network you're using below to access the settings that need to be installed in your phone.

In addition, keep in mind that our wireless coverage does not work outside the country unless you first enable international roaming, which allows you in some cases to connect using international networks.

After a bidding war that involved Dish Network, Altice USA, Ultra Mobile, a group led by Boost Mobile founder Peter Adderton and others, Chicago private equity company GTCR has purchased Consumer Cellular for around $2.3 billion. Consumer Cellular is one of the country's biggest MVNOs with almost 4 million customers.

Consumer cellular does not work internationally, no matter what they say.

If you can't get an international plan for your destination, the safest option is to turn off data roaming entirely. In iOS, the toggle switch is under Settings > Cellular. In Android, it's under Settings > Wireless & Networks > Data Usage.

When you make an international call on your cellphone, you use minutes from your plan. In addition, there is a per-minute international charge (see International Rate Table and Country Codes below). To get started, contact Customer Support at (888) 345-5509 to have International Calling enabled on your account.

Mobile telephone networks differ from country to country, and your phone may be incompatible with the networks in the country you are visiting. Your phone might work for voice calls, but other functions – such as text messaging or sending and receiving data – might not.

Right now, you can call over 200 countries and send texts to over 100 countries. We've made it easy to find all available country codes on our website: View country list and codes. Note: Country availability is subject to change. Messaging is available to certain wireless carriers' customers within a country.

So if you're overseas and not connected to Wi-Fi, you'll need to have data roaming switched on if you want to text your family back home, use Google Maps, post on social media or do anything else that requires the internet.
