Angry Orchard is a hard cider company located near Walden, New York, United States, owned by the Boston Beer Company. It makes hard cider using apples from its own 60-acre orchard located in Hudson Valley, New York.

It really depends on the cider that we're looking to create as to what apples we use. For our Cider House Collection, Iceman and Strawman, and our core collection – Crisp Apple, Apple Ginger and Traditional Dry – we use a blend of Italian and French apples.

According to Angry Orchard, the name comes from the fact that the very best apples for cider-making look, well, angry. When they started exploring orchard after orchard across the U.S., Italy, and France, they found that the best cider apples were nothing like the ones you'd find at the grocery store.

Why the Angry Orchard name? Our (lucky) cider makers travel the world in search of the very best cider apples. After touring countless orchards in the U.S., France and Italy, it dawned on them that some of the best apples for making cider actually look gnarly and angry, unlike apples you'd find at the grocery store.

Angry Orchard Green Apple returns with its familiar bright, fresh apple aroma, with notes of honeydew melon and kiwi. This cider is slightly tart with balanced sweetness, reminiscent of a fresh green apple. 5% ABV. Refreshing imperial cider blended with dark cherry juice.

Angry Orchard uses dessert apples. Dessert apples are apples that are sweet and made for eating. Originally ciders were made from apples called, well… cider apples. These apples are bitter to the taste due to the high tannins and acids.

Though we often group ciders in with the beer category, the fermented drink is actually more like wine than beer. That's because apples are used for cider in the same way that grapes are used for wine, and there are no malt or hops added to cider.
