Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank closed its acquisition of BBVA's American banking business in June, and BBVA customers who haven't already seen changes to their deposit, credit or investment accounts should experience them by early October.

Within these awards, the BBVA Group was honored as Best Global Bank of the Year for its use of technology for a better customer experience, as well as for its commitment to sustainability. This was one of the bank's six strategic priorities that were achieved with the launch of a range of financial solutions.

The bank is now PNC Bank. More than 2.6 million BBVA consumer, business and corporate customers were switched over.

BBVA said in January that it would be shutting down Simple later in 2021. The decision came from the company “reassessing its goals” as part of a planned sale to PNC Bank, which reached an agreement to acquire BBVA's US operations in November 2020. The acquisition has not yet closed.
