up to 6 months Seiko claims the watch, once fully charged, can go up to 6 months with all its functionality intact, and up to two years in the Power Saving mode that cuts down on some of the features.

Like atomic signal controlled watches, the Astron GPS automatically (or manually) goes into receiving mode once a day to connect with global positioning satellite signals. It actually connects with up to four or more satellites at once. This is to ensure proper triangulation so that the watch knows where you are.

HOW GPS WORKS. GPS satellites circle the Earth twice a day in a precise orbit. Each satellite transmits a unique signal and orbital parameters that allow GPS devices to decode and compute the precise location of the satellite. GPS receivers use this information and trilateration to calculate a user's exact location.

About the Seiko TV watch The watch was sold in 1982 in Japan for 108,000 Yen (approx $425 at the time) and in September 1983 in the United States for a suggested price of $495. The tiny TV can receive all UHF and VHF channels via an external receiver, which connects to the watch via a cable and connector.

This, coupled with wear throughout the year, has meant I've never come to them to find they have died. But of course, a battery, even a rechargeable one, does have a finite life span, and Seiko says this is around ten years. So ten years of worry-free accurate timekeeping is what you can expect from these movements.
