Apply Cabot Australian Timber Oil for Decks, Siding, Railings & Outdoor Furniture to small sections at a time – 2- 3 boards at a time. Product that does not penetrate must be removed or rubbed into the boards parallel to the wood grain.

While we certainly appreciate your feedback about our products we do NOT recommend applying two coats of the Australian Timber Oil product, one coat will fill your wood pores enough for protection and anything additional may result in peeling.

The amount of pigment in an oil makes it less durable to it's stain counter part. A stain contains extra pigment and offers further protection from harsh weather conditions and foot traffic.

If the deck is Merbau, Teak or Jarrah for example, you will most likely want to use an oil to enhance the natural beauty of the timber. Alternatively, if your deck is Treated Pine, you may want to use a stain to change the colour and achieve a more rich, solid look.

Wipe the stain off immediately if you'd like a lighter tone. But for a deeper tone, leave the stain on the wood for 5 to 10 minutes before wiping it off. Be sure to wipe off all the excess stain going in the direction of the grain of the wood.

Sand the wood in between coats with a fine sandpaper. You will probably find 3 or 4 coats of oil is your optimum, delivering the best results.
