Nintendo's stated reason for creating the 2ds is that if you don't have a lot of money to spend, or don't want to spend a lot of money, you will still be able to play the new games. And that's actually a really good idea. Why though? We already have a ds with upgraded specs that only shows 2d, and it's called the dsi!

The whole point of the 3DS is to indicate a successor to the DS as well as describe what it does, which is play games in 3D. Once Nintendo decided on the 2DS however, they removed the 3D aspect to make it cheaper and for younger kids, and named 2DS accordingly to explain that the system does not play games in 3D.

32 gigs Nintendo officially says 32 gigs. You can definitely get larger SD cards working as long as they are formatted to Fat32. But there's a limit to how much the system's OS can display in terms of icons.
