Eggo waffles were invented in 1953 by the American inventor Frank Dorsa, who developed a process by which waffles could be cooked, frozen, and packaged for consumers. Along with frozen waffles, the Dorsa brothers also produced Eggo potato chips (and Golden Bear potato chips) and Eggo syrup.

They were called “Froffles” which was a combination of the words “frozen” and “waffles”. Brilliant. But what ended up happening is they realized most people were just calling them “Eggos” for short because they had an eggy flavor to them. This made them switch the official name to Eggo.

Kellogg's Eggo Homestyle Waffles Dietitians considered these iconic frozen waffles the least nutritious of those on the list. “They're higher in carbs and added sugar and made with refined flour, so they're lower in fiber than the others,” said Kayleen Eslinger, a registered dietitian with Medical Offices of Manhattan.

The stiff batter for the waffles is made from flour, butter, brown sugar, yeast, milk, and eggs. Medium-sized balls of batter are put on the waffle iron. When the waffle is baked and while it is still warm, it is cut into two halves.

All you need to make our crispy waffles are ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen: all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, butter, milk, and eggs. Combine the dry ingredients in one bowl, the wet ingredients in another, then add the wet to the dry and mix together - that's it!
