The official M&M blizzard has three ingredients: artificially flavored vanilla reduced fat ice cream, M&Ms milk chocolate candies, artificially flavored chocolate syrup. Yes, just plain yum!

A popular Dairy Queen item is the Blizzard, which is soft-serve mechanically blended with mix-in ingredients such as sundae toppings and/or pieces of cookies, brownies, or candy. It has been a staple on the menu since its introduction in 1985, a year in which Dairy Queen sold more than 100 million Blizzards.

Blizzards technically aren't ice cream According to the FDA, a product must contain at least 10 percent butterfat or milkfat to be called ice cream, and DQ's soft serve only has 5 percent - hence why it's always referred to as a Blizzard “treat.”

M&M's Milk Chocolate Candies Blizzard We all know that the best part of trail mix is the M&M's. The same is true when it comes to Blizzard mix-ins. Each bite is great; you get that nice shell encasing the chocolate, adding a delightful chocolatey crunch to every spoonful of your dessert.

Each candy provides something unique, so it is up to you to decide which one you want. The last year-round category that DQ offers is its Royal category, which is the normal Blizzard with a fudge or strawberry center inserted into it.

1985 1985: Blizzard® Treats are introduced.

Blizzards can bring whiteout conditions, and can paralyze regions for days at a time, particularly where snowfall is unusual or rare. A severe blizzard has winds over 72 km/h (45 mph), near zero visibility, and temperatures of −12 °C (10 °F) or lower.

Previously, the term blizzard referred to a canon shot or a volley of musket fire. By the 1880's, the use of the word blizzard was used by many across the United States and in England. The upper Midwest and Great Plains of the United States tends to be the region that experiences blizzards most often.

Obviously the Blizzard is number one. Blizzards are the whole reason you go to Dairy Queen! Not only can you feel the magic when the worker turns the Blizzard upside down and the ice cream doesn't move, but Blizzards also come in numerous flavors like Oreo, Butterfinger, cookie dough (my all-time fav) and more.

M&Ms became famous after Mars sold the candies to the US military during World War II. Initially, Mars sold M&Ms only to the Army. As the US entered World War II, it needed a convenient, heat-resistant candy that would travel well, and M&Ms fit the bill.

It is the difference in ratio of chocolate to sugar coating that changes your perception of the taste. In a regular M&M, there is a good amount of chocolate inside, so you get more of the creamy, chocolate-y goodness as it melts on your tongue.

What Is a Blizzard? The National Weather Service defines a blizzard as a storm with large amounts of snow or blowing snow, winds greater than 35 mph (56 kph), and visibility of less than ¼ mile (0.4 km) for at least three hours. Some blizzards, called ground blizzards, have no falling snow.
