Disney Xtreme Digital Disney XD carries the same name as an unrelated mini-site and media player on Disney.com, which stood for Disney Xtreme Digital.

Like its predecessor Toon Disney (post-2000), yet unlike its sister network Disney Channel, Disney XD is advertiser-supported and sometimes runs commercials for mostly non-Disney branded products during the ad breaks, as well as some network promos.

Disney XD was to become a channel to focus on the male child demographic with live action series and also a home for new TV animation productions by Disney.

"There were 18 million boys [aged] 6 to 14 out there, and it seemed like we had an opportunity to use all the knowledge we'd learned in creating the Disney Channel to create a great offering for boys specifically," he says. That offering is Disney XD, a new cable channel aimed at boys - and their allowances.

Adobe XD is no longer available for purchase as a single application but will continue to be supported for existing users. XD will continue to be available as part of our Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps subscription. We will continue to support existing Adobe XD customers.

The network's successor, Disney XD, which launched on February 13, 2009, is also a channel also aimed at children and features a broader array of programming, with a heavier emphasis on live-action programs.

Both Disney Channel and Disney XD are cable channels that follow a traditional distribution model. Disney Plus is a streaming service that gives a very different viewing experience.
