1. PREPARE TO COLOR. Always read and follow the instruction sheet included in the box for both full head and touch-up applications.

ammonia To achieve a permanent color, many hair dyes work using a system of ammonia (or ethanolamines in the case of some ammonia-free products), hydrogen peroxide, and p-phenylenediamine. The ammonia pulls apart layers of the hair's proteins, so that the dye can access the hair shaft.

The usual exposure time is 35-40 minutes. During the first 15 minutes, ammonia opens the hair scales for color penetration. Between 15-30 minutes, hair takes over the desired color. And the last 5-10 minutes, care and protective substances for the health of hair are activated.

The bottom line. You can dye your hair while it's wet, but the color might be less vibrant, it might not last as long, and it might be a little more uneven than it would be if you colored it while it was dry.

The scent isn't bad at all compared to other hair coloring products. The conditioner in the box is amazing! Overall this is probably my favorite hair coloring product due to the good oils they put in their products and the fact that it isn't overpowering scent wise. I definitely recommend this product.
