What's New for 2021? The CX-9's infotainment receives an overhaul for 2021 and now comes with a 10.3-inch display and the updated interface that debuted on the Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback. A wireless smartphone charging pad is now standard on Touring, Grand Touring, and Signature models.

The Mazda CX-9 Signature is a standout in the three-row midsize SUV class, mostly for its striking design and relatively engaging driving experience. It feels decently athletic through corners but not at the expense of ride comfort. It's the most original offering in the segment.

Although all trims include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist, only the Signature trim adds front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, driver attention alert, automatic emergency rear braking, and traffic jam assist.

Verdict. The 2023 Mazda CX-9 doesn't necessarily tick all the right boxes. It isn't the roomiest or most efficient three-row, nor does it have the latest and greatest in-car tech like some of its rivals. If you're looking purely for an SUV that nails the family-hauling basics, there are better options out there.

The 2022 model of the MAZDA CX-9 is especially impressive. For starters, this model year hasn't experienced any recalls (as of now). It also received a perfect reliability score of five stars from Consumer Reports; both the 2020 and 2021 models received the same five-star ratings.
