Both of these products can be applied to bare wood or layered over wood that's already stained or painted as long as it does not have a protective top coat finish on it. Okay.

Solid colour stain is a rich, opaque stain that provides a flat-finished covering to a material while allowing the texture of the material to show through. They are used to accent certain features of some materials, while often having protective properties.

Grain. You can now start staining. By going with the grain using a Purdy synthetic. Brush. Then immediately wipe in the direction of the wood grain to remove the excess stain.
