Hybrid cam system Made famous by Hoyt with their cam and a half system, the hybrid cam works in a similar way to the single cam but instead of an idler wheel, the top limb has a control cam which is almost identical in shape to the bottom cam.

Although archery probably dates back to the Stone Age – around 20,000BC – the earliest people known to have regularly used bows and arrows were the Ancient Egyptians, who adopted archery around 3,000BC for hunting and warfare. In China, the earliest evidence of archery dates to the Shang Dynasty – 1766-1027BC.

How often should I replace my strings and cables? Hoyt recommends that a bow's strings and cables should be changed when wear is evident or every two years under normal use conditions.

Some report that Hoyt was founded in 1931 in St. Louis, MO with Earl Hoyt Sr. and his son producing hand-made cedar arrows and wooden bows. Others believe that it was in 1942 that Earl convinced his dad to go into the archery business with him under the name of Hoyt Archery Company.
