The innovative Centrifusion technology of VertuoLine offers a completely new way of experiencing freshly brewed coffee. The system's extraction delivers a smooth large-cup coffee or espresso with a high quality aromatic profile, distinguished by a silky and generous crema.

With its barcode technology, Vertuo offers an extremely high level of precision. The system recognizes each coffee capsule, then adjusts the brewing parameters – such as temperature, crema, flow, rotation speed and water/coffee contact time – to deliver the best results in every cup.

Nespresso VertuoLine capsules come in three different sizes, so larger drinks can be as strong as smaller ones. In total those three sizes will make 5 different coffee drinks. Nespresso Original Pods only come in one size and are meant to make espresso, double espresso or a luongo.

CENTRIFUSION. The Vertuo design doesn't utilise a pump for extraction like other machines. Instead, the range uses a feature called Centrifusion. After the capsule is inserted, the capsule spins up to 7,000 rotations per minute, blending ground coffee with water to produce a thick, foamy "crema".

The name Vertuo derives from the word “Virtuoso”, which means mastering an expertise.

Why? Nespresso has a patent in place until the end of the decade, meaning other brands can't manufacture the larger dome shaped Vertuo coffee pods. Prices are at the premium end, sitting between 55p-65p per pod for most styles, with some larger style pods now as high as 82p.

Vertuo coffee pods have a wider dome shape than the original capsules, generally smaller and cup-shaped. While the Nespresso original machine only offered one size of espresso pods, the Nespresso veruoline compatible capsules come in a broader range of size options since the machine has greater capsule capacity.

Nespresso makes two lines of coffee machines: OriginalLine which brews espresso drinks only and VertuoLine which brews both espresso and coffee.

Nespresso Vertuo is better than the Original because it's more advanced, with its coffee capsules that have in-built barcodes, which the machine picks up and uses to adjust its brewing process. However, an Original coffee machine is more versatile, as you can use third-party coffee capsules in it.
