To wait upon the Lord means planting the seed of faith and nourishing it (see Alma 32:41). It means praying as the Savior did - to God, our Heavenly Father - saying: “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done” (Matthew 6:10; Luke 11:2). It is a prayer we offer with our whole souls in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

While you are waiting God is working (Rom. 8:28). The second reason seems to be inaction. Verse 31 says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength….” Wait does not mean to do nothing.

So, be informed and be aware, God uses many things to teach us spiritual lessons. One of those means is the pain associated with waiting on Him. Don't rebel, don't complain, but ask the Lord to give us a heaping of grace to help us respond when the pain of waiting on Him is upon us.

9 Ways We Are To Wait Upon the Lord

1. Acknowledging God's sovereign control of all things.
2. Coming to terms with our dependence upon God.
3. Seeking spiritual strength from the Lord.
4. Being patient and quiet.
5. Refraining from needless fear and worry.
6. Continuing to learn and obey God's commands.
7. Expecting the Lord to save.

Waiting strategically can cultivate good fruit in in our lives such as patience, perseverance, and endurance. It also draws us closer to our Savior and points those who are watching us to the gospel.

Waiting on God is good for us. If God acted immediately every time we cried to Him, we would be in control and not Him. We would call the shots, and we do not possess His wisdom. Having to wait causes us to learn to trust Him, to trust His timing.

Instead of getting from God, learn to give to Him. Ultimately, it's not about getting what we want, but about becoming who God wants us to be. PROCESS: Waiting on God is a process. The process of the wait is much like cultivating a garden – pruning, weeding out, watering, blossoming.

Waiting for Gods provision is hard. Waiting is hard. But waiting on God to move and trust God to fulfill His promises is also a very important lesson that all Christians need to learn. Or else you might end up with the wrong spouse, wrong job, poor health and no provisions.

It is the active dependence upon and obedience to God, even when it seems like He is not there. It is meant to be challenging to help us grow closer to Him as we seek Him out and trust and hope in His promises and His goodness.

“Waiting on the Lord requires patience, but it also brings about blessings. As you learn to trust in His timing and surrender to His will, you will experience His peace, joy, and love in new and profound ways.”

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). In Isaiah 40:31, it tells us what happens to people who wait on the Lord.

For Christians, the object of our waiting is the return of Christ. The wait is hard because it humbles us and reminds us we are not in control. We wait for the salvation that Jesus will bring when He returns, but we do not determine that day. Therefore, waiting is a “restless anticipation.”

What To Do While You're Waiting

• Abraham and Sarah waited for a son (so did Rachel and Hannah).
• Joseph waited for a promotion.
• Moses waited to lead the Israelites out of slavery.
• Joshua waited for the Promised Land.
• Ruth waited for a husband.
• David waited to become king.
• Elijah waited for rain.

One benefit to waiting on God is that our strength increases because we lean on Him to provide the strength. Philippians 4:13 reveals “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Several verses of scripture are reminders that we are strong because of Him.
