Cherry's animated short film, Hair Love. The film follows a father's attempt to do his daughter's hair for an extra-special occasion. Cherry's vision was to highlight the importance of hair love and self-esteem, while celebrating the relationship between fathers and daughters everywhere.

“Hair Love” is a sweet and joyful story about an African-American father learning to style his daughter's natural hair in his wife's absence. The film uses words sparingly; the characters' gestures and expressions take viewers through the father's commonplace but poignant endeavor.

This story was born out of seeing a lack of representation in mainstream animated projects, and also wanting to promote hair love amongst young men and women of color. It is our hope that this project will inspire. The Hair Love Picture book hit stores on 5/14/19 and made the New York Times best seller list.

Hair tells the story of the "tribe", a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War.

What is the conflict? There is a lack of harmony between Zuri and her father. The stress of raising children is too much for the father. Zuri is displeased with the appearance of her hair.
