Most diamonds emit a blue-colored glow under UV light, but not all of them. So if your diamond does, you can feel pretty confident that it is a real diamond.

If you're serious about finding out whether your diamond is real or fake, you can put the stone through a fire test. Use a lighter to light the stone for approximately 30 seconds before dropping it in cold water. If it's a real diamond, the stone will remain unharmed, but if it's fake it will shatter to pieces.

Look For hallmarks In most cases, you can find these inscriptions on the necklace clasp, ring shank, bracelet shank, or earring back. All fine jewellery should be hallmarked unless it is over 100 years old or the hallmark has worn away. The hallmarks 18K, 14K, 10K, 750, 585, and 375 indicate the gold's purity.

Check for the carat stamp. White gold jewellery often has an 18k or 18KT. Scratch it on a part that won't be noticeable easily. If it's the real piece of white gold, scratching will reveal the yellowish gold layer underneath.
