A remote-control vehicle is defined as any vehicle that is teleoperated by a means that does not restrict its motion with an origin external to the device. This is often a radio-control device, a cable between the controller and the vehicle, or an infrared controller.

Vehicles cannot be actively tracked unless an SOS Emergency call or Optimised Land Rover Assistance call is made or triggered, in such event the vehicle's location will be sent automatically to the emergency services and breakdown services.

The Land Rover InControl App is free to download via both the Google Play and Apple App Stores. However, depending on the age of the vehicle some of the more advanced features, such as InControl Remote, do require a subscription.

Present-day remote controls are commonly consumer infrared devices which send digitally-coded pulses of infrared radiation. They control functions such as power, volume, channels, playback, track change, heat, fan speed, and various other features.
