XGT - Next Generation Technology.

All of the new Makita 40V Max XGT tools, at least those with moving components, feature brushless motors, including the fan. The first wave of tools will launch in April 2021.

40V max XGT Batteries are equipped with smart technology. The digital communication within XGT Batteries optimizes performance to provide up to 2X longer sustained power under heavy-load applications.

The higher the voltage, typically, the more cells that are in the battery pack. So when comparing a 40V pack to a 20V pack, in most cases the 40V pack will have more cells which means more power capacity available.

40 Volts The XGT® battery has a unloaded voltage of 40 Volts, which is called 40 Volt Max. The LXT® voltage of 18 Volt is so well established, and so many of these batteries have been sold that Makita prefers to continue to refer to these as 18 Volt.
