CHiPs is a 2017 American buddy cop action comedy film written and directed by Dax Shepard, based on the 1977–1983 television series of the same name created by Rick Rosner.

"CHiPs," which stood for California Highway Patrol, followed the daily beats of two state motorcycle patrolmen as they patrolled the freeway system in and around Los Angeles.

Chip comes from an Old English word, cipp ("a small piece of wood"). Crisp comes from a Latin word that means "curly." Both words emerged around the same time, on the cusp of the 15th century.
