Starbucks® Blonde Espresso Roast was introduced in 2017 as our first light-roasted espresso, for customers who wanted a smooth beverage but with a sweet finish. It is a blend of coffee from Latin America and Africa, roasted lighter to showcase the coffee's natural sweetness.

Starbucks® Premium Instant Blonde Roast is our lightest instant coffee. It's bright and complex with sweet flavor and a lighter body. Starbucks® Premium Instant Medium Roast sits between our light and dark roasts. It is smooth and perfectly balanced with creamy notes of milk chocolate and nuts.

A blonde roast is essentially the same as a light roast. It has a lighter body and higher acidity than darker roasts, sometimes described as the coffee's “brightness.” There is a spectrum even when it comes to lighter roasts, with white, gold, and blonde roasts all falling under what's considered light roast coffee.

Created by a team of master blenders and roasters, Starbucks® Blonde Espresso brings together beans from Latin America and East Africa, roasted to the peak of their flavor to showcase the coffee's balanced, subtle sweetness.

Roasting Level Dark roasts go through a roasting process where the beans hit temperatures between 437-446°F. To make a blonde roast, the whole beans are roasted to temperatures between 355-400°F, just before or just after the beans start to crack in the roasting process.

Some brands, such as Starbucks can charge a premium price because their entire brand image is based around luxury. Starbucks sets its prices on a simple idea: high value at moderate cost. When people feel like they are getting a good deal for their money, they are more likely to pay a higher cost.

Besides the higher level of antioxidants (from CGA) that light roast coffees tend to have, blonde roast coffee also has a thin outside layer called silverskin or chaff. This silverskin is an antioxidant source, and some believe it to have similar health benefits to Vitamin C.

Blonde, or lighter-roasted espresso, is still considered strong. It is a concentrated amount of coffee, therefore it will inherently be stronger than most drip or cold brew coffees we are used to. However, in comparison to a darker roast, the blonde roast may seem lighter and less strong.

While some instant coffees use lower-quality coffee beans and add chemicals and by-products, Starbucks VIA™ Ready Brew is 100% natural roasted coffee, made without preservatives.

Instant coffee is made from coffee beans, usually of a low-quality Robusta variety, that is roasted to taste and then finely ground into an almost powder-like form. Next, they're stripped of their water content through brewing, leaving behind an extract. Freeze drying coffee involves a few steps.
