QLED TV is a Quantum dot LED TV. Quantum dot technology is what makes these types of television differ from conventional LED TVs.

While 8K technology may have some benefit in a large theater or sports venue setting, there's no practical benefit for your living room. The first 4K television hit the market about a decade ago, and content providers are just now catching up.

QLED advantages and disadvantages

QLED (Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode) TVs present brighter images than standard LCD TVs. This is because QLED TVs build on LED technology by integrating proprietary software with LED backlighting.

All 8K TVs have advanced processors that allow them to upscale 4K, and HD content, to 8K resolution - so everything you watch will be automatically upgraded with extra color and definition. The better the quality of video you start with, the better it will look in 8K.

8K resolution has four times the number of pixels as a 4K display while 8K TV has a resolution of 7680 x 4320, so an 8K screen will be able to show images with much more detail and clarity than a 4K TV. The first 8K TVs were introduced at CES 2019.

8K is a higher resolution than 4K - and that's it. Common 1080p screens have a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels. 4K screens double those numbers to 3,840 by 2,160, thereby quadrupling the number of pixels. 8K doubles the numbers again to a resolution of 7,680 by 4,320.

Neo QLED basically stands for neo (or new) quantum light-emitting diode. In a TV, it basically means that the thousands of tiny LED light bulbs in the backlight panel in your QLED TV are now replaced by even smaller, finer, and granular sand-like LED particles.

There isn't much 8K content accessible. It's more pricey than 4K displays. Also, it's not ideal for smaller TVs; a small screen wouldn't show any difference in the picture.

QLED TVs use the same LCD panels we've seen for years, but they have a special layer of quantum dots on top. This thin layer improves the overall color volume compared to traditional LCD displays, resulting in improved image quality.
