Crayola® Crayons are made primarily from paraffin wax and color pigment. This process is the same for all Crayola Crayon colors. The paraffin wax is melted and mixed together with pre-measured amounts of color pigments.

The trade name Crayola was coined by Mrs. Edwin Binney who joined the French word "craie," meaning stick of chalk and "ola" from the word "oleaginous," meaning oily. Crayola Crayons are made primarily from paraffin wax and color pigment.

Every one of the iconic art supplies are made at a factory in Easton, Pennsylvania. The plant churns out the top-selling crayons at a rate of 650 crayons per minute, with a total production of up to 13.5 million per day in 400 different colors. On average, the facility makes 3 billion Crayola crayons per year.
