So what makes the new version, Kinder Joy Surprise Eggs different? Well, for starters, there is no more hollow chocolate egg. Instead, the egg is the plastic packaging that is comprised of two separate halves. One half contains two sweet cream layers, one sweet milk-cream flavored and one cocoa flavored.

Italy History. Ferrero launched Kinder Joy in Italy in 2001. It has been sold in Spain since 2004, in Germany since May 2006 and in China and India since 2007. It was launched in Australia and the United States in 2018.

These were made to copycat an Italian Easter tradition and were originally created thinking children would love them. The tradition was that adults gave children chocolate eggs on Easter that were filled with surprises so Kinder took that theory and just made it into something small and memorable.

Kinder Joy contains Salmonella, a bacterium found in contaminated food. Salmonella causes a gut infection known as gastroenteritis. Children or people who consume Kinder Joy chocolates risk contracting gastroenteritis.

The Kinder chocolate bars and Kinder eggs are the most famous Kinder products and universally loved by kids and adults alike. Opening the Kinder Surprise egg creates much joy and excitement.
