Fixed combination loratadine (the active ingredient contained in Children's Claritin Allergy) pseudoephedrine sulfate preparations: Insomnia, dry mouth, headache, somnolence, nervousness, dizziness, fatigue.

Loratadine (Claritin) can take up to three hours to take effect and may cause minor drowsiness. Fexofenadine (Allegra) can take effect within two hours and also is completely nonsedating. All three medications last for around 24 hours.

This medication is an antihistamine that treats symptoms such as itching, runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing from "hay fever" and other allergies. It is also used to relieve itching from hives. Loratadine does not prevent hives or prevent/treat a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).

Claritin® products are non-drowsy and can be taken at any time. Do not take more than one dose every 12 hours if you are using a 12-hour product, or one dose every 24 hours if you are using a 24-hour product. Always follow the label directions.

A common adult Claritin dosage is 10 mg by mouth once a day. Kids ages 6 years and older can also take this dose. Children ages 2 to 5 years old can take 5 mg of Claritin once a day. This medication isn't typically recommended for kids under 2 years old.

Common Claritin side effects include headache, drowsiness, and fatigue. Less commonly people may experience dry mouth, dizziness, or stomach side effects like nausea or diarrhea. Contact your healthcare provider if any Claritin side effects become too bothersome.

For many people with allergies, symptoms are the worst around 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. Taking an antihistamine at bedtime may help you or your child feel better in the morning during allergy season.

A main difference between Benadryl and Claritin is that Claritin tends to cause less drowsiness and sedation than Benadryl. Benadryl and Claritin are available in generic form and over-the-counter (OTC).

Before bed. Allergy symptoms are often worse between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. If you give them medicine before they go to sleep, it could control their morning symptoms. Before allergy season. If your child is allergic to pollen, you may want to start an antihistamine before pollen season, for 3 to 10 days.

Loratadine (Claritin) typically causes less side effects like sleepiness than some other antihistamines, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and possibly cetirizine (Zyrtec).

You are allergic to loratadine, or any other medications. You have ever had asthma, kidney, or liver disease. You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. You have phenylketonuria (PKU).
