Two blade broadheads are the oldest design of broadhead. From the first primitive stone points to the most high tech single bevel heads, 2-blade heads are a tried and true effective design. Studies show two blade heads, and in particular single bevel two blade broadheads, are by and far the best penetrating heads.

Broadheads are the arrow points used for hunting. They are designed to fly accurately, penetrate deeply and cut vital organs to facilitate a quick and humane kill. There are three types of broadheads: Fixed blade design: These have two or more blades that need to be manually sharpened.

Mechanical blade broadheads

• Field point accuracy - A tightly-tucked mechanical tip is about as close to field point accuracy as you're likely to get.
• Better blood trails - In general, if you rip open a bigger hole, more blood will come pouring out.

Mechanicals. Aside from large cutting diameters, mechanical broadheads are great for turkeys because they inflict a massive energy transfer to the bird upon blade deployment, and with ideal arrow placement, that “shock” sometimes knocks the bird right off his feet plus rips his innards to shreds.

While aluminum might be more lightweight, steel broadheads are typically much stronger and won't bend as easily. Titanium typically boasts the best strength-to-weight ratio, but you'll see that reflected in the price. Without weak points or moving parts, one-piece broadheads are generally the most reliably durable.

I went to 2 blade single bevel broad heads from 3 blades. And noticed way more reliable penetration but blood trails were less visible. The animals ive seen shot with the big mechanicals have huge bleeding, but often lack penetration. I think of it like I do with bullets.

Multiple blades will give you a closer shave with fewer passes. However, they often achieve this by stretching the skin and, essentially, “popping” the hair out from the skin, then cutting it. The problem is that, when the razor passes on, the skin is unstretched and the hair then recedes back under the skin surface.

Materials. There are three basic types of metals used in broadheads: aluminum, titanium, and steel. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

The broadhead style you choose depends on your bow and arrow setup. A fixed blade is more durable, better penetrating, and longer lasting than a mechanical. But, mechanicals are easier to shoot accurately and have large cutting diameters.

Mechanical heads are definitely a good choice for those who want the most accurate possible head, but they aren't as durable as fixed-blade heads. Because the blades of a mechanical head are unsupported, it is easier for them to break off on a bone hit.

There is no question that most mechanical heads fly similar to a field point, but odds are they don't fly exactly like a field tip.
