Current research and testing have shown that many commercial baby food products, including Beech-Nut baby food, are tainted with unsafe levels of heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, mercury, and cadmium.

Beech-Nut has long-lasting roots in organic foods. We first launched an organic baby food line in 1991 called Special Harvest. Since then, we have prioritized increasing our organic food offerings and providing access to organic recipes throughout the U.S.

American Beech nuts provide several health benefits as well. They have been ground into a powder to medicate headaches, epilepsy, hydrophobia, and vertigo. Beechnuts are mildly toxic, so they were chewed by the Cherokee to expel worms.

Beech nuts are edible for humans and livestock too. For centuries they were fed to pigs in autumn to fatten them up. As a beech tree can live for hundreds of years, it can provide important habitat for deadwood specialists like hole-nesting birds and wood-boring insects.

Beechnuts are edible and can be consumed by humans, though they have a high tannin content and a slightly bitter taste. They are also an important food source for wildlife, such as squirrels and birds. Humans and livestock can consume beechnuts. For generations, they were fed to pigs to fatten them up in the autumn.

In comparison, stage 2 baby food is designed for infants 6-9 months old, and is a thicker texture, between mashed and puréed. It may include combinations of meat and veggies or fish.

While the different stages of baby food aren't standardized (it would make your life easier if they were!), most popular brands more-or-less follow these four stages: Stage 1: 4 to 6 months (watery puree of a single ingredient) Stage 2: 6 to 9 months (thicker texture that is strained or mashed)
