The more realistic a hen decoy is, the more likely a gobbler will be to come to that decoy. I've found that a mounted hen decoy will lure in a gobbler much faster than a plastic hen decoy will. I've discovered that the more realistic the hen decoy looks, the better your odds will be to bag a gobbler.

So the second decoy setup that I use here in northern Illinois is just a single hen. Now I'll take this out usually halfway. Through the second season into the third season.

If you have to be selective about which decoys to buy this spring, the best bet is always a hen decoy, such as Miss Purrfect XD. Every turkey hunter should have at least one in their vest. And since Montana Decoys are so light and packable, carrying a Miss Purrfect XD.

Let's revisit the popcorn example from above. In this scenario, you, the customer, are evaluating your options based on two factors: size and price. The large popcorn is the target, and the small is the competitor. The medium popcorn works as a decoy because it is asymmetrically dominated by the other two.

I like to set my decoy in an area where it's very visual. The top priority when hunting with a decoy is for your prey to see it. Analyze the terrain around your setup and consider where deer are most likely to travel. Put yourself in the place of the deer and consider where they will most easily see your decoy.
