"Target load" isn't anything specific. It's a more affordable round that's just made for target shooting. It's usually something like an 8 (or 7, or 9). The higher the number, the smaller the pieces of lead (or steel, hevi, etc) inside the shell. These pieces are referred to as "shot".

A target or tactical shooter generally fires multiple rounds in a row, causing the barrel to heat up and more stress on bullet. To keep performance high, we give these bullets thicker jackets. Our Varmint and Hunting bullets have slightly thinner jackets.

Each 2-3/4" shell in this box of 25 fires a 1-1/8 oz. column of #7 steel birdshot at a muzzle velocity of 1,200 feet per second. Steel shot is non-toxic and complies with hunting or club regulations that prohibit the use of lead projectiles.

Target ammunition is manufactured and designed differently. Target ammo is mostly full metal jacket, or FMJ for short. This type of ammo is designed to infiltrate considerably further into the target than defense ammo would. Most target shooting ranges are designed for the result of Target Ammunition.

Target ammo is meant to be used for target shooting it is usually a full metal jacket with a rounded tip whilst self defense is hollow point the reason for using a hollow point is safety when you shoot a hollow point it will stop at the first thing it hits due to the bullet expanding .

The main benefit of target ammo is that you can buy larger quantities of it for much cheaper than any self-defense ammo because it's generally cheaper to manufacture. Because you can buy more of it, you can train more often with it, and that's important.

We do not recommend that you use Target bullets for hunting. The wound channel with a Target bullet is narrow compared to the wound channel of a Hunting bullet. The wider wound channel produced by the Hunting bullet is more likely to impact vital organs if the shot placement is not ideal.
