Thompson's® WaterSeal® Clear Wood Sealer provides waterproofing protection for exterior wood surfaces. The clear sealer enhances and maintains the wood's natural color.

4 years Water Seal can only be used on bare and uncoated brick, stone or concrete. How long will Water Seal last? If applied correctly, Water Seal will last up to 4 years. This is dependent on conditions such as orientation of the wall and local climate.

Thompson's WaterSeal has clearly not been a consumer favorite with deck stains or sealers. Mainly as it does not offer any UV protection and it grays in a few months. The Transparent and Semi-Transparent versions are prone to premature peeling and wearing after about 1 year.

Polyurethane and shellac are clear coatings that are sometimes used to seal wood pores prior to coating. Sanding sealer is similar to polyurethane and shellac, with one major difference: zinc stearate additive. Zinc stearate is added to the sanding sealer to help it produce a higher, fuller build.

Drying. This sealant dries immediately after installation. Thompson's water seal does not dry when the coat is still vulnerable and gets wet. To avoid that from happening, when you're done applying it, make sure there is no rain coming and try to avoid spilling liquids on it.

Thompson's® WaterSeal® Wood Sealers can be applied to damp wood, so you only have to wait about two hours to begin applying stain. Some of our other products require that the wood dry for 48 hours before applying a deck coating.
