Norway The legendary Stressless® recliner was born on the west coast of Norway, in the small community of Sykkylven, where our main factory still lies. Jens Ekornes founded the company in 1934, after which an unbroken lineage of proud craftsmen have produced some of the world's finest furniture.

Ekornes Ekornes is the largest producer of furniture in Norway. The company owns the brands Ekornes®, Stressless®, Svane® and IMG. Stressless® is one of the world's most well-known furniture brands, while the brands Ekornes® and Svane® are most famous in Norway. IMG is marketed mainly in the USA and Australia.

We offer more than 140 leather and fabric options for customizing your next Stressless chair or sofa.

For Stressless® recliners, sofas and accessories we mainly use solid or laminated beech. The hardness of the wood makes beech furniture extremely durable. It is strong with a high abrasion resistance. Beech is easy to work with and provides a good base for adding stain and varnish.

Ekornes Fjærfabrikk starts in 1934, with three employees and machines made in Germany. Furniture manufacturing has just become established in Sunnmøre, and this provides the founder, Jens Ekornes, with his first customers. But it doesn't take long before springs for furniture and mattresses are sold throughout Norway.

Wood. Ekornes uses rotary cut beech veneer in all its moulded furniture components. Lightly steamed beech is used for solid wood components. The base of the recliner is made from 32 layers of European beech, one of the hardest woods available.
