SKIL Power Tools is a brand of electric power tools and accessories located in Naperville, Illinois, United States. It is a subsidiary of Chervon, a company based in Nanjing, China.

Edmond Michel developed the first electric handsaw in 1923. Teaming up with farmland developer, Joseph W. Sullivan, they made improvements and started The Michel Electric Handsaw Company. It's here that the handheld circular saw as we know it was first dubbed the “Skilsaw”.

Like the other corded saws I found, the SKIL has a full metal plate (steel) and metal blade guard. The saw's handle is reasonably comfortable and its safety is within reach of the hand on the trigger. In addition to a blade lock to use while changing the blade, the SKIL has a laser guide to help with your cut.

Unfortunately, most are made in China, Arghh. One distributor called Skil and was told they're made in Alabama–well not the one they shipped me. There it was hidden on the bottom “Assembled in China”, on the motor plate too.
