What is ENTYVIO?

What is ENTYVIO?ENTYVIO (vedolizumab) is a medication used to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Specifically , ENTYVIO is used to treat adults with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, two types of IBD that are characterized by chronic inflammation of the digestive tract.

How does ENTYVIO work?ENTYVIO works by selectively targeting a type of white blood cell called integrin alpha4beta7. This cell is involved in the inflammation process that causes IBD symptoms. By binding to integrin alpha4beta7, ENTYVIO blocks the white blood cells from entering the digestive tract, reducing inflammation and helping to alleviate symptoms.

How is ENTYVIO administered?ENTYVIO is administered through intravenous infusion, which means that it is given directly into a vein through a needle. The infusion is typically given by a healthcare professional in a hospital or clinic setting.

What are the side effects of ENTYVIO?Like all medications, ENTYVIO can cause side effects. Some common side effects include headache, nausea, and joint pain. More serious side effects can occur, such as allergic reactions, infections, and liver problems. It is important to discuss any potential side effects with a healthcare professional before beginning treatment with ENTYVIO.

How effective is ENTYVIO?Overall, ENTYVIO has been shown to be an effective treatment for both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Clinical trials have shown that ENTYVIO can reduce symptoms and improve quality of life for people with IBD. However, the effectiveness of the medication can vary from person to person, and it may take several weeks or months of treatment before significant improvements are seen.

How is the dosage of ENTYVIO determined? The dosage of ENTYVIO is determined by a healthcare professional based on factors such as the patient's weight, medical history, and the severity of their IBD symptoms. Typically, ENTYVIO is given as an initial dose followed by additional doses at weeks 2 and 6, and then every 8 weeks thereafter. Dosage adjustments may be made based on the patient's response to treatment and any side effects they experience.

Yes, Entyvio is meant to be used as a long-term treatment. How long you'll receive Entyvio depends depends on whether the drug is working to manage the symptoms of your condition.
